The U. S. Air Force dedicated a C-17 Globemaster III The City of St. Louis Oct. 10, 2000, during a ceremony at The Boeing Company in St. Louis. More than 2,000 Boeing employees in St. Louis produce the cargo door, cargo ramp, cockpit, main landing gear pods, pylons and several thousand detail parts and subassemblies for the C-17. Final assembly of the aircraft takes place in Long Beach, Calif.
