The T-45 Goshawk is capable of being modified and upgraded in additional ways to meet customers' needs and the changing demands of flight training. The most significant modification to date is a new digital cockpit known as Cockpit 21. The digital cockpit will replace the analog cockpit and enhance the Navy's ability to train pilots destined for the F/A-18 Hornet, the AV-8B Harrier and other sophisticated carrier-based aircraft. The current T-45 aircraft with an analog cockpit will be redesignated to T-45C aircraft when the digital cockpit is integrated. With training in Cockpit 21, pilots making the transition to the carrier-based jets can concentrate on their primary mission of learning how to perform key tactical maneuvers.
