The Sea-Based X-Band Radar and platform are loaded and secured aboard the Motor Vessel Blue Marlin, a semi-submersible, heavy-transport vessel, in the Kiewit Shipyard, Corpus Christi, TX. The SBX will transit the Pacific Ocean powered by the Blue Marlin headed for its homeport in Adak, Alaska.A major sensor for the Missile Defense Agency's ground-based midcourse defense program (GMD), the Sea-Based X-Band Radar (SBX) will provide the capability to track ballistic missiles and their warheads, discriminate among various objects in flight, and provide data for intercepting targets and their destruction.
