PHM, Patrol Hydrofoil Missileship, a Military Warship, Flying
Because water and air present similar challenges in control, stability, electronics, hydraulics and propulsion, Boeing began adapting many systems used in jet airplanes for hydrofoils in the 1906s. The Patrol Hydrofoil Missileship is a fast, highly maneuverable, all-weather warship that Boeing developed for the fleets of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). PHMs are capable of acting as a missile-launch platform even in rough seas. Fully submerged foils and an advanced automatic control system give the PHM platform stability and ride comfort usually only afforded large ships while keeping the significantly lower costs and high maneuverability of a smaller ship.
