From Jan. 31 to Oct. 26, 1977, the first test Space Shuttle, the Enterprise, used a Boeing 747, modified by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration as a Shuttle Carrier Aircraft, to take it to the upper atmosphere for the approach and landing test program.
