Although only nine entered service, the Stratoliners set new standards for speed and comfort. Until Stratoliners entered service in 1939, travelers were subject to bone-rattling turbulence, unless the airliner was lucky enough to encounter perfectly calm weather. Cabin pressurization of the Stratoliner allowed its passengers to soar above the storms for the first time. After the United States entered World War II, five 307B Stratoliners were drafted into the Army Transport Command as C-75s and by war's end had made 3,000 accident-free transatlantic crossings.
