The resulting "Flying Fire Engine" was a 7x8 foot rescue platform that hung by a 500 to 1000 foot cable from an overhead helicopter. It had a small engine that powered thruster nozzles so the SMS could be moved horizontally. It could hold three firemen and 16 additional people.Several demonstrations were held in 1978 but there were no sales.BI47033 (BIV16_SMS_01)Maximum size:720px × 480px (~85 MB)License type:Rights ManagedDuration:3m49sKeywords:1970s-buildings-day-firefighters-flight testing-ground shots-ground to air-helicopters-historic production status-male-McDonnell Douglas-one of a kind aircraft-other livery-search and rescue-several/groups-Suspended Maneuvering System (SMS)-urban areasRelated Photo/Videos:View AllRelated Virtual folders:Suspended Maneuvering System (SMS)
