Called "Convertiplane," the XV-1 used stub wings and a pusher propeller for forward thrust to augment vertical lift from the main rotor. The XV-1 made its first in-flight conversion from helicopter to aircraft in April 1954 and was the first rotorcraft to fly more than 200 mph.BI45107 (BIV15_XV-1_01)Maximum size:720px × 480px (~44 MB)License type:Rights ManagedDuration:2m6sKeywords:1950s-air to air-automobiles-banking-day-factories-fire trucks-flight lines-flight test livery-flying-flying in formation-full body views-fuselages-ground shots-historic production status-hovering-McDonnell Aircraft-Missouri-research/experimental-rotorcraft blades-runways-silver color-takeoffs-test flights-XV-1 ConvertiplaneRelated Virtual folders:XV-1 Convertiplane
