Boeing Delta II 7920-10C vehicles launch the majority of the IRIDIUM global telecommunications network satellites. The satellites are enclosed in a 10-foot-diameter composite payload fairing for liftoff and ascent. After separation they are placed into a high inclination, circular, low-Earth polar orbit, approximately 420 nautical miles above Earth. The completed constellation consists of six orbital planes with 11 satellites in each plane.
