The Airlock for the International Space Station is lifted by crane at the Kennedy Space Center in preparation for its placement inside the cargo bay of the Space Shuttle Atlantis. Built by Boeing, the Airlock is made of aluminum. It is 18 feet long (5.5 meters), 13 feet in diameter (4) meters, and weighs 13,368 pounds (6,064 kilograms). Clearly visible on the exterior of the Airlock is the Debris Shield, designed to help protect it from the harsh elements of space.
