International Space Station Airlock Module, Kennedy Space Center

The Airlock for the International Space Station is lifted by crane at the Kennedy Space Center. Boeing built this gateway to space. Once in space, it will be secured to the starboard side of the Unity node module. Made of aluminum, the Airlock is 18 feet long (5.5 meters), 13 feet in diameter (4) meters, and weighs 13,368 pounds (6,064 kilograms). Clearly visible on the exterior of the Airlock is the Debris Shield, designed to help protect it from the harsh elements of space.
