Grandfather and Grandson with B-17G Flying Fortress, "Sentimental Journey" and P-51 Mustang

The last version of the Flying Fortress was the B-17G. Produced in the greatest quantity, it included a two-gun turret under the nose for defense against direct frontal attack. At an average cost of $238,329 per airplane, Boeing built 4,035 B-17Gs; Lockheed (Vega), 2,250. This aircraft was one of 2,395 B-17Gs that rolled off the Douglas assembly line. The aircraft was restored in 1985 and made hundreds of appearances at airshows afterwards. The restored aircraft's permanent home is at the Arizona Wing Commemorative Air Force in Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona.
