FJ-1 Fury in Flight

The FJ-1 Fury made the Navy's first operational jet landings and takeoffs at sea, and important improvements were built into succeeding models. A special feature built into the fighter was the bending nose gear, which enabled it to "kneel down" on the crowded deck of an aircraft carrier. Ground crews could lower the FJ-1 to a dolly, on which it could be taxied or easily pulled into any position desired.
