In 1999 the first Super Hornet entered squadron service with the U.S. Navy. The Super Hornet is 25 percent larger than the original Hornet. Both the single-seat E and the two-seat F models have increased range, more payload carrying ability, more powerful engines and more room for future growth. The plane's aerodynamic design also has been improved to give it exceptional maneuverability. In 1999 the Boeing Super Hornet team received the Robert J. Collier Trophy, the aerospace industry's highest award, for designing, manufacturing, testing, and introducing into service the most capable and survivable carrier-based combat aircraft in the world. The Navy plans to buy more than 548 Super Hornets through 2010.BI2828 (c35-1474-772)Maximum size:6000px × 4051px (~69 MB)20.0in × 13.5in (300dpi)License type:Rights ManagedKeywords:1990s-adults-ailerons-aircraft carriers-airplanes-attack-catapult launches-currently in production-day-exteriors-F/A-18E/F Super Hornet-fighter/attack-fighters-flaps-full body views-gray color-ground crews-ground shots-jets-military-military actions-military facilities-military livery-military personnel-monochromatic-monoplanes-multirole-muted colors-occupations and work-perspective lines-photos-rear views-runways-several/groups-steam and mist-structural systems-takeoffs-tarmac-viewed from above-watercraftRelated Photo/Videos:View All
