F/A-18 Hornets Flying in Formation

The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet is the first tactical aircraft initially designed carry out both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. By 1997, more than 1,200 Hornets were delivered. In November 1986, the Navy’s Blue Angels replaced their A-4 Skyhawks with F/A-18 Hornets, and the more powerful F/A-18E/F Super Hornet made its first flight in November 1995. During 2001, Hornets provided around-the clock battlefield coverage at the Afghanistan theater. Planned production is for least 548 Hornets through 2010.
