Boeing's C-17 sustainment efforts have proven to be an overwhelming success. In March 2006, the fleet of C-17 Globemaster III airlifters reached one million flying hours -- the equivalent of one of the advanced cargo jets flying every minute of every day continuously for more than 114 years. The flight hour milestone came significantly sooner than Air Force or Boeing planners anticipated. Officials at the Tanker Airlift Control Center, the Air Force's nerve center for global airlift operations, confirmed that C-17s have been pressed much harder since Sept. 11, 2001, than originally planned.BI228279 (smf06-f-synd-lss-1000)Maximum size:3043px × 2036px (~17 MB)10.1in × 6.7in (300dpi)License type:Rights ManagedKeywords:1990s-adults-airplanes-C-17 Globemaster III-contrast-dark-day-female-glare-gray color-ground crews-ground shots-inspecting-interiors-jets-large-maintenance-military-military livery-monochromatic-monoplanes-muted colors-photos-silhouettes-small-stairs, lifts and ladders-text-transports-two people-viewed from aboveRelated Photo/Videos:View All
