C-17 Globemaster III Lands at Kaneohe MCAS, HI
Hickam Air Force Base's C-17s are operated by the 15th Airlift Wing and the Hawaii Air National Guard's 154th Wing. The unique arrangement marks the first time C-17s have been jointly operated from the same base by the Air Force and the National Guard. The C-17 fleet has amassed nearly one million flying hours -- and in the global war on terrorism, has flown combat missions for nearly 1,600 consecutive days -- with record-setting reliability rates. With a payload of 160,000 pounds, the C-17 can take off from a 7,600-foot airfield, fly 2,400 nautical miles, and land on 3,000-foot dirt runways.
