Boeing Plant II Roof Camouflage

Camouflage installations and materials on Boeing Field and Plant II during WWII included bomb shelters, machine gun platforms, troop dormitories, a casualty station and a message center. The most elaborate camouflage construction was the 26-acre illusory residential Wonderland atop the Plant II factory building shown here. Made of chicken-feather trees, painted canvas buildings, green burlap lawns landscaped with shrubs of spun glass on wire, the "village" had 53 residences, 24 garages, a corner service station, a neighborhood store and three green houses. The wartime cover for the plant extended over neighboring Boeing Field. The camouflage over Boeing Field sported the look of a more sparsely settled community. In 1946 the camouflage structures were dismantled by Army engineers.
