Boeing Phantom Badger and V-22 Osprey
The Boeing Phantom Badger combat support vehicle was publicly introduced May 14, 2013 just one day after it was submitted in a proposal to the U.S. government. With all-wheel drive, the Phantom Badger can climb over the most difficult terrain, including 60-percent inclines and more than two feet (61 centimeters) of water. It can accelerate to speeds of nearly 80 mph (128 kilometers per hour). The Phantom Badger offers many features, including robust hydraulic and suspension systems. One of the drawbacks of many existing combat vehicles is that the ride can cause passengers to experience physical exhaustion, a condition often referred to as "battle rattle." Perhaps most impressive is its ability to swiftly enter and exit the V-22 Osprey.
Boeing has partnered on the vehicle with MSI Defense Solutions, a North Carolina-based company with significant experience in the automotive industry and a rich history with NASCAR. A contract award is expected within the next several months. During this time, the Phantom Badger will continue durability testing at the Nevada Automotive Test Center.
