The Model 247 was developed in 1933 as the world's first modern passenger transport. An all-metal, twin-engine airplane, its innovations included an autopilot, pneumatically operated de-icing equipment, and a variable-pitch retractable landing gear as well as its two-engine, low-wing configuration.
