Improvement in efficiency comes in the way the 787 is designed and built. New technologies and processes achieve unprecedented levels of performance at every phase of the program. As much as 50 percent of the primary structure, including the fuselage and wing, on the 787 Dreamliner is made of composite materials. The 787 program opened its final assembly plant in Everett, WA in May 2007 and in North Charleston, SC in July 2011.
