B-17G Flying Fortress on Tarmac
Last wartime Flying Fortress was the B-17G, which added even more fire power to the series. Note the power-operated "chin turret," and added forward firing machine guns in the nose. Many of the llater model B-17Fs were modified in the field to include the new armament features, and thus became B-17Gs. Thousands of these Forts made a shambles of Hitler's Europe, and shot down more enemy airplanes than any other Allied warplane. Last Fortress built was a B-17G, making total of 6,981 B-17s from Boeing assembly lines alone.
