B & W starting New Zealand Mail Run
William E. Boeing, company founder, and Conrad Westervelt, a Navy officer, designed and built the B & W, a twin-float sport seaplane, in a boathouse on Seattle’s Lake Union. Boeing took the B & W on its first flight June 15, 1916. Two were built and sold to the New Zealand government, becoming the company’s first international sale.
