767-400ER During Taxi Tests
The new 767-400ER (extended range) taxied for the first time Oct. 5, 1999 on the runway at Paine Field in Everett, Washington. The test, conducted prior to first flight, provides data about the airplane's braking performance and handling characteristics on the ground. It ensures all the systems perform as designed while the airplane is in motion, providing the flight crew's final validation before first flight. During the test, the pilots conducted several low- and high-speed taxi runs, incrementally building speed to amaximum of 90 knots. The airplane's gross weight for this test was 304,405 pounds.
