747SP Rollout with First 747
The 747SP (Special Performance) rolled out of Boeing's Everett Factory hangar on July 19, 1975. The 747SP, or "short body" 747 was a 747-100 with a shortened fuselage designed to maximize speed and range instead of capacity in order to compete in the mid-sized wide-body commercial airplane market of the 1970s.
