747 Space Shuttle Carrier and Space Shuttle Models in Wind Tunnel Tests at Microcraft
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration modified two 747-100s into Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. From Jan. 31 to Oct. 26, 1977, the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft took the first test shuttle Enterprise to the upper atmosphere for the approach and landing test program. The tests showed the orbiter could fly in the atmosphere and land like an airplane.
