717-200 Moving Line Assembly

When Boeing began building its 717 regional jet on a moving assembly line in 2000, the method was an automobile production technique that had never been applied to airplanes. The new method trimmed production time and assembly costs and was later applied to 737 manufacturing in Renton, WA. The 717 program pioneered breakthrough business and manufacturing processes for Boeing Commercial Airplanes and concluded its 156-airplane production run in May 2006.
